Idaho door & window repair

About us

About GemState Fix

A repair company, with nothing else to sell you.

No showroom, no sales appointment, no financing pitch. Technicians who turn up, work out what actually failed, and fix that.

What we sell

Repairs. That is the entire product list

Who comes out

A technician, not a salesperson

What you get first

A firm price, before anything is touched

Our story

It began as a question nobody in the trade was answering straight: why does a sticking patio door come back as a quote for a new patio door?

We kept watching Idaho homeowners get told that their slider, their windows, their whole rear elevation needed replacing — when the actual fault was a pair of flattened rollers, a balance that had lost tension, or a strike plate three millimetres out of line. The quotes were not fraudulent. They came from companies whose business is selling replacement units, and a replacement is what those companies have to offer.

So GemState Fix was built the other way round. The product list has one item on it. If a repair will hold we do it, and if it genuinely will not, we say so and tell you to call somebody else — which costs us the job and is the only way the advice means anything.

How we work

Four things we hold to

Repair first, and only repair

We do not sell replacement doors or windows. There is no version of this business where recommending one earns us anything, which is the point.

Diagnose before quoting

The fault is rarely where the symptom is. A lock that will not throw is usually a dropped slab; a slider that drags is usually rollers and a rail. We check the whole assembly.

Specify for where you are

A Sandpoint threshold and a Twin Falls window track are different problems. Sealed units heading to McCall or Ketchum should be built for that elevation, and frequently are not.

Say the unprofitable thing

Winter condensation on the room side of your glass is indoor humidity, not a failed window. Defogging does not restore a seal. Planing a sticking door creates a January draught. We will tell you all three.

Our technicians

The people who turn up

A narrow trade worked every day. Our technicians handle the same systems constantly — builder-grade sliders from the growth decades, aluminium windows from the seventies and eighties, historic sash with cords and weights in Boise's older neighbourhoods, and hardware from manufacturers that closed years ago.

They arrive in a stocked van carrying the common roller, balance, hardware and screen components, which is why most jobs finish on the first visit rather than becoming a two-week parts order.

They will also explain what they found. If you want to know why only the west-facing windows have fogged, or why the door sticks in August and gaps in January, ask. That conversation is part of the job.

Where we work

The whole state, not one valley

Idaho is long, and the job changes as you travel it.

Treasure Valley

Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, Kuna and Star, plus the historic sash of the North End.

Magic Valley

Twin Falls, Jerome, Burley and the farming communities around them.

Eastern Idaho

Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Rexburg, Blackfoot and the upper Snake River valley.

North Idaho

Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Sandpoint, Moscow and Lewiston.

The mountain towns

McCall, Ketchum, Driggs, Salmon and the valleys between them.

Everywhere else

If your town is not on this list, it is still on our map. Call and ask.
